The Bluegrass YCC in Hendersonville is excited to have players back on the court. Joey Hall gives us an update on the play status here.
1. What has been the response from your members since tennis has returned to the court?
Our members have been very responsive for the most part. We have been very busy this summer. Probably the busiest summer I've had in a while. We started with just privates in late April/ May, the small groups, the larger groups and now can run our social events.
2. Do you have unique programs designed for this season?
In terms of unique programs, we have started a pickleball program for the 1st time at Bluegrass. We have beginner and intermediate classes and just held our first pickleball social. We will start a weeknight league soon.
3. What do you see as the greatest opportunity, and the greatest threat for the near future of local tennis?
I guess covid could count for both. Opportunity in that people seem to see tennis as a way to get out in a safe environment in terms or crowds/groups. Threat in terms of keeping some people away especially seniors who might want to try pickleball. Also a threat in that local governments might lock up public courts again.
4. What advice to do you have for those tennis players looking for a place to play?
Have a real conversation with different pros at clubs and drill down to what you are really looking for and see if the pro listens and tries to accommodate or just says yeah we do everything without really addressing if they have what you want.
